Studio Aurora - Chicago, in its commission work,
uses a process
of applying pure translucent painted color in 3
or more layers of wash-glazes with brushes.
-
Materials
>
The
choice of materials for this process are paints of all
natural components such as - beeswax, casein (milk protein),
tree resins, essential plant oils. Pigment choice can range from
earth, mineral, semi-precious stone such as jaspar or genuine lapis lazuli,
or even high-quality pure plant pigments. High quality
plant pigments are also an option. The paints are produced
through "soft chemistry" technology and imported from Germany
and are the world's highest quality
professional grade Aglaia® brand paints. It should be strongly
emphasized how significant these living paints are for the
living designs of Lazure painting.
-
The focus of Lazure Painting is to create visually
qualitative, richly modulated tonalities on architectural surfaces.
Even more importantly though, Lazure Painting aims to qualitatively
transform architectural space directly affected by those surfaces
and to aesthetically harmonize the space to create luminous
color moods or atmospheres. Here the "secret" is knowing utilization
of the sources of light - either natural or artificial, which
reflect off the white or light colored wall surfaces lying behind
the applied color. This interaction of directed and reflected
light with transparently painted surfaces creates a luminous
radiant coloration filling the space... enriching, enlivening
and effectively supporting of the function of the space. Walls
breathe color... space breaths color... beautiful color harmonizes
architectural surface, form and space to serve function. Aesthetically
enhancing human sensibilities of body, soul and spirit both
for individual and in social interaction...Lazure ensouls architecture.
-
Lazure painting is designed to effect the whole human organism
in a wholesome and liberating way. We enliven architectural
surface and space through the emancipating aspects of translucent
color which affects human breathing. The physio/psychological
impact of this revolutionary method will expand the way we utilize
color in architecture. In a time when anxiety and stress impose
upon us, Lazure has come of age.
- The
origins of Lazure painting reach back to the universal figure
Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) . Steiner's spiritual -scientific
research as the basis of Anthroposophy, continues to have practical
impact globally to this day.

Artist's
Statement
Color
in translucency, rhythmical-gestural movement and a wide, dynamic
range of light-dark contrast are the various elements which I seek
to synthesize in my compositional paintings. This is the case in
both small - to large canvas work and in interior wall mural work
where space usage and light source play important roles.
This
compositional painting process I call "organic transformative"
... beginning with the first brush strokes - placing gestural color
on the surface. I am then cultivating or nurturing, through improvisational
play...a "growing-towards-form". Then, gradually the search
leads to an aesthetically satisfying moment which I call "stilled
movement".

Through the painterly, visual language, I aim to reveal qualitites of musical
or singing color and to inspire the viewer's inate sense for mystery...
for transcendent or spiritual realities.
Such
experiences come about through the outer sensory (tangible). They
are in this sense "clothed" or "veiled" within
the substances of pigment and paint medium, within the physical
2-dimensional surface and the 3-dimensional space in which the viewer
stands and moves.
I
have recently discovered a new love in doing sculpture. The same
creative process of free improvisation applies here. Throughout
the years I have been commissioned to do graphic work for various
clients such as Alchymia Theatre in Chicago, Midwest Eurythmy Group,
Chicago Waldorf School and The Anthroposophical Society in America.
Samples of this graphics work can be provided upon request. Fine
art canvas paintings and sculpture can be
